Zidane and Real Madrid offer themselves the triplet! Real Madrid win 13th UEFA Champions League win against Liverpool with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema
After a scoreless first period, and injured Mohamed Salah, Real Madrid and Liverpool gave us a big show after the break. In a final marked by the two coarse pellets of Loris Karius, the goal of Karim Benzema and the doubled Gareth Bale including a legendary back (3-1). Real Madrid wins its 13th Champions League, the third in a row for Zidane and his family.

A first period on a false rhythm
A Champions League final usually promises a show. But not always. The first period was not necessarily the one we expected. It was especially marked by the exit on wound of Mohamed Salah. Author of an exceptional season in Liverpool, the Egyptian was considered the main threat to Real, double title holder. Only, in the duel with Sergio Ramos, he was victim of an arm key and collapsed a first time (25th). The Reds striker got up before giving up a few minutes later. In tears, he had to leave his place to Adam Lallana (31st). However, Liverpool had made a good start, imposing an intense pressing on the Madrilenians. The opener was not far off when Roberto Firmino struck against Sergio Ramos, returned to the feet of Trent Alexander-Arnold right side, whose shot was well stopped by a vigilant Keylor Navas (23rd). To the injury of Salah was added that of Daniel Carvajal (36th), which broke a little more the rhythm of this first act. A few weeks before the World Cup, the Spaniard also came out in tears (replaced by Nacho).
The gag goal of Benzema, Mané’s answer: lethargy has given way to madness
After a bad start to the match, marked by surprising inaccuracies, Real Madridtook over Liverpool. Loris Karius was pushing a header from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema had followed and thought of scoring, but the referee was flagging an offside position (43). The Spanish club was a little more pressing: the resumption of Nacho was missing (45th) and the distant attempt of Benzema fled the frame (45 + 3). At the end of the locker room, the final finally turned into madness. While Isco had just found the bar (48th), Karius made an improbable mistake. The German goalkeeper raised his right hand without paying attention to Benzema. The Frenchman extended his right foot and scored in the empty goal in amazement (1-0, 51st). A gag goal that did not stun Liverpool. The Reds were quick to react. On a corner, Dejan Lovren cut the ball off the head and Sadio Mané extended close in goal to equalize (1-1, 55th). An unexpected awakening after such a blow of club. The first period seemed so far away, the absence of Salah was (almost) forgotten and the match had finally begun. And it was not over.
Gareth Bale offers his thirteenth Champions League at Real Madrid
In the 61st minute of play, Zinedine Zidane made a first change. While he was gaining strength after a very disappointing start to the match, Isco was replaced by Gareth Bale. It took only 122 seconds to see the Welsh shine. On the left side, Marcelo adjusted a very good center to the penalty spot, Bale was at the receiving end back to the goal and sent an acrobatic flip left foot unstoppable (2-1, 64th). Exceptional. Real took the lead again, Liverpool was not far back but the strike Mané hit the post (70). The only hope of equalizing had vanished. Andrew Robertson was back in the feet of Cristiano Ronaldo – decidedly very discreet – to remove the break from the Portuguese (74th). The hero of the evening was well named Bale, the latter was responsible for validating the success of Madrid. Karius was again, this time on a distant shot from the Welsh who offered himself a double (3-1, 84). Dejan Lovren even prevented him from scoring a third goal a few minutes later by completing the perfect tackle (85 ‘). The march was too high for Liverpool, penalized by the injury of Salah and especially the two mistakes of his keeper. For its part, Real Madrid wins the thirteenth Champions League in its history. A third in a row for the Spanish club and Zinedine Zidane! A great first since the triplet of Bayern Munich between 1974 and 1976. The Merengue are more than ever on the roof of Europe.
