CONMEBOL has punished Lionel Messi $1,500 and suspended him for one game when his red card at Copa America, the federation proclaimed on Tues.
Messi received a red card throughout the third-place match against Chile at Copa America. Argentina’s star was sent off with port of entry Medel when they got into a heated affray.
CONMEBOL cited “offensive behavior, insults and denigrating actions” as reasons to suspend Messi, reports beIN Sports.
Messi caused a stir together with his “corruption” comments created this summer at Copa America. He boycotted the tournament’s laurels ceremony earlier this month to protest the referring and recommended Argentina wasn’t treated fairly.
“There was lack of respect toward the USA throughout this Copa America,” he said. ”We may have done higher, however, they did not allow us to build it to the ultimate. Corruption and therefore the referees aren’t leased the fans relish soccer. this is often laying waste soccer.”
